Handling 404 Error Documents…Also 500, 401, 403
Posted by: | CommentsIf you ever decide to move your website or blog, you will end up with links to your old site that exist all over the internet that no longer point anywhere. If this happens, you could miss out on a lot traffic. Don’t let this happen to you!
To prevent this, you can redirect that traffic to any URL you want. You will have to create a .htaccess file and upload it the root directory of your old domain. Simply open up notepad on your computer and create a file with the following statements:
ErrorDocument 400 http://yournewurlhere
ErrorDocument 401 http://yournewurlhere
ErrorDocument 403 http://yournewurlhere
ErrorDocument 500 http://yournewurlhere
Save the file as htaccess in notepad on your computer. After uploading the file to the root of your old domain folder, rename it to .htaccess on your server. This is really handy if you plan on moving a domain and will prevent your visitors from getting error messages. This way, you’ll never miss out on potential leads coming your way.

WordPress Blog Pinging Itself
Posted by: | CommentsI had a annoyance where my wordpress blog would ping itself whenever I made a new post that linked back to another post. Some bloggers like this feature, but I don’t since it clutters up my comments.
I simply downloaded a little plugin to prevent this from happening.

Using Trackback and Linkbacks: Blogging Tips
Posted by: | CommentsUsing trackbacks and pingbacks are an excellent way to build links and traffic to your blog, as well as building relationships with other bloggers.
This feature has been around for quite some time, but many people still may not know too much about it. I’ll briefly discuss using pingbacks. If you find a blog with useful information and then go to your blog and make a post linking to the blog which helped you, your comment will automatically placed on the website with a link pointing back to your site. It’s a really neat concept, but has been abused by many.
